Director of Baseball Operations/Scheduling/College Recruiting Coordinator
Bill is a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic where he excelled on the diamond and the classroom. Bill is one of the original 9 founders of the Blue Chips organization and was appointed Director of the program in 2013. His passion for the game and the kids is bar-none, he works endlessly to help these young men achieve their goals while learning life lessons and becoming well rounded individuals. Bill played D1 Juco at CAC where he was a leadoff hitter CF leading the Cowboys in SBs and compiled a .346 career average. He was also renowned for his defense winning the teams golden glove award. Bill has spent 40 years around the game playing, coaching and mentoring. He helps lead the defense instruction (Catching,Infield,Outfield) and base running for the program. He also is the recruiting coordinator for the program and is most proud of the successes of the young men the program has helped to play at the next level. Our first 3 graduating classes have produced 25 collegiate baseball players. The game is an extension of life and the lessons learned if you endure are invaluable is Coaches philosophy.
Program Director/Chairman/Director of Player Development
Mike graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic where he was a standout Baseball player and Team Captain. He continued his Baseball career at CCBC-Dundalk where he was a starting SS and won the Team MVP after his Sophomore season. His Baseball IQ is off the charts as many former teammates will attest. He began his Coaching career soon after as an Assistant at CCBC-Dundalk from 1990-1994. He also was the 3rd base coach for the legendary scout Walter Youse and the Johnny’s Under 20 team during the summers where he coached many of future MLB players among them current St. Louis Cardinals hitting coach John Mabry. During this time , they won 2 National Championships (1990,1991) and 1 World Championship in Rotterdam,Holland (1991). He was a Scout for the Atlanta Braves 1991-1995. Mike is currently the Assistant Baseball Coach at Loyola Blakefield under one of his former players Jimmy Crowley. Mike is one of the 9 founding members of the program and been the Director of Player Development since day 1. He is very involved in all the training aspects of the program and is a big part of the Defensive and Hitting Philosophies taught throughout the program. He believes in giving back and his knowledge and passion for the game go unmatched. Mike is a tremendous teacher of young men.
Pitching and Hitting Coach
Ben has been involved in organized baseball for nearly 40 years. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ben had a stellar High School Career as a P/1B that led to him being named All State in 1984. Ben chose to attend Pensacola Junior College in Florida to further his dream of playing professionally. As a Sophomore at Pensacola, Ben was throwing 92MPH and was being heavily recruited. Ben chose to continue his career at Birmingham Southern in Alabama where he continued to thrive. After graduation, Ben was offered a job as a grad assistant at Southern Mississippi University but in the June draft the MLB Champion Kansas City Royals would select Ben. Ben spent 4 years in the Royals organization and another 2 with the Detroit Tigers organization. He has had the privledge to be tutored by the likes of Sparky Anderson, John Wathan, Jim Bibby and Gene Garber. Ben continues to have a passion for the game and enjoys helping our young men achieve by being giving of his baseball knowledge and experience. Coach Ben is always thrilled to be around baseball and it shows.
Outfield, Hitting, and Speed/Agility Coach
Matt is a graduate of Archibishop Curley High School in Baltimore where he excelled as a Baseball and Soccer player. Matt is a recent graduate of Shepherd University in West Virginia where he excelled on the Baseball diamond as a Rams Outfielder. Matt was recognized by the NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association ) as an All American following his Junior and Senior Seasons. Matt led Shepherd to a Conference Championship his Senior Year while being named the MEC Player of the Year in 51 games he batted .442 with 10HR and 52RBI while scoring 65R. He also had 19-2b, 3-3B with a .779 slugging pct and .550 on base pct. Matt batted .388 and was successful on 19 of 22 SB attempts during his Junior Campaign. Matt has had the distinction of leading the NCAA in Hit by Pitch in 2014/2015 with 27 in each season. Matt brings a tremendous work ethic and old school mentality to our young players as he pushes them to excel. Matt has taken the lead in our Speed and Agility Program as he continues to do the same for the Shepherd Rams.
Infield and Strength Coach
Travis Hash is a graduate of Harford Tech High School in Harford County. Travis excelled in Baseball, Football and Basketball during his High School career. Travis is a member of the 1st graduating class of Blue Chips and a terrific example for our young men. Travis played his Freshman year at CCBC-Dundalk where he started at SS every game. Travis fielded to a .962 fielding percentage and was awarded as the JuCo Regional RAWLINGS GOLD GLOVE Winner. Travis also led the team in many offensive categories and was named the 2015 Team MVP. Travis is studying to be an Athletic Trainer in College and currently has received Certification as a Personal Trainer and has found success as an entrepreneur running his own business (Hash Fitness). Travis has taken the lead in our Strength and Core Training program. Travis is a pure example of attention to detail to our young men.
Bobby is a graduate of C Milton Wright High School in Harford County where he excelled on both the Diamond and Soccer field. During his Junior year he led the Baseball team to a 23-0 record and a State Championship leading to a scholarship to the University of Maryland. While at Maryland he played on 2 College World Series Teams. Bobby finished his pitching career at Maryland with a 15-4 overall record while appearing in 79 games. Bobby has combined with former D1 Pitcher Corey Taylor to form Team 44, a program based on arm care and mechanics for young Pitchers to excel and play at the next level.
Corey is a Fallston High School graduate whom excelled on the diamond and chose to attend Harford Community College to continue his Baseball Career. During his 2 years at HCC, Corey put up stellar numbers where he set the All Time record for strikeouts (115) and the single season record for wins (9) earning First Team All- Region XX honors his Sophomore Season. Corey was rewarded with a scholarship to UNC-Greensboro where he pitched 2 years compiling a 5-2 record with 2 saves in 37 games with 98 strikeouts in 114 innings pitched. In 2012 was also named Most Outstanding Pitcher MVP of the Cal Ripken Collegiate League. He has partnered with Former D1 Pitcher Bobby Ruse to form Team 44.
Rick excelled in baseball and basketball at McKeesport High School in Pennsylavania. He went on to play baseball at California University of Pennsylvania where he had an exceptional Pitching career. The Baltimore Orioles drafted him in the 1991 MLB draft out of college. Rick rapidly progressed through the organization making his MLB debut on July 7, 1995. Rick went on to spend 12 years in professional baseball and also represented the USA in the 2000 Olympic Games on the Men’s baseball team earning a Gold Medal. In 2006, the city of McKeesport unveiled a monument to Krivda and to women’s basketball star Swin Cash, the 2 Olympic Gold medalist from McKeesport. Rick is a terrific example to the young men of staying humble,hard work and giving back. his love of the game is evident.
